Alzheimer’s Study Focuses on Village in Colombia

BioSpace.com posted a story recently that was also published in the Wall Street Journal.

The study focuses on a small village in Columbia of 300 people, 200 of whom carry a genetic marker for Alzheimer's Disease.  This is an ideal setting for a controlled, longitudinal study of the effects of a specific therapy.

According to the report. Half of the 200 suspected of being at risk of the disease will receive medication. The other half will receive a placebo. The remaining 100 who are non-carriers of the genetic marker will also receive a placebo.

The study will produce a report in the years 2020.

The race for a cure for Alzheimer's Disease is not easy, and it is not quick. This is an endurance race, not a sprint".
