Raising $500,000 for Alzheimer’s Research

The Fifty Plus Racing Foundation raises money to support research to fight Alzheimer’s Disease and to support the families of people who are living with Alzheimer’s Disease. The Fifty Plus Racing team competes on the IMSA racing circuit to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s Disease and to encourage others to contribute to the Fifty Plus Racing Foundation.

In January 2015, we raced for the fourth consecutive year at the Rolex 24 at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida.  We came in 8th in the Prototype Class.

Our team over the years has included Byron DeFoor, Jim Pace, David Hinton, Dorsey Schroeder, and Thomas Gruber. Although not able to race while AC/DC is on tour with the release of his new album, Rock or Bust, Brian Johnson and his wife Brenda Johnson are both race car drivers and fans leading the Highway to Help Foundation campaign for Fifty Plus Racing, Inc.

Brian Johnson has partnered with Fifty Plus Racing team founder, Byron DeFoor of Chattanooga, Tennessee for several years. DeFoor, a Monterey Can AM winner and noted vintage racer, started Fifty Plus Racing with a group of dedicated racers — all over the age of fifty. They debuted with Brian Johnson at the Rolex 24 in 2012 at Daytona International Speedway.

The fund-raising campaign launched with an Endures for an Alzheimer’s Cure Benefit dinner on November 21, 2014 at the Embassy Suites, Waterside in Chattanooga.

The initial effort netted $100,000 for the Foundation for Neurological Research. Dr. Justin Boyd, keynote speaker, was awarded the check supporting Alzheimer’s Disease research. Dr. Boyd, a native of Chattanooga, is an Associate Research Associate at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and a research fellow at Harvard Medical School of Harvard University.

The Rolex 24 is an endurance race and so is the fight to cure Alzheimer’s Disease. The mission of Fifty Plus Racing, Endures for a Cure, is to raise money to find a cure for this disease that undermines the well-being of millions.
